Leslie Vinson of Bridgeport turned herself in to the city's police department on Friday, Sept. 22 on larceny charges, Bridgeport Police Capt. Kevin Gilleran announced.
According to Bridgeport Police, Vinson had been given the status of Power of Attorney for an elderly relative who suffers from frontotemporal dementia and severe cognitive impairment.
After a forensic audit was conducted on the victim's finances, the case was transferred to investigators, who eventually found that Vinson had neglected to pay the victim's bills and had "knowingly and intentionally" exploited them by depleting their life savings, Gilleran said.
To do this, Vinson would allegedly write and endorse checks in the amount of over $200,000 to herself, family members, and a personal business. Her relative was eventually left with around $500 to his name, according to Gilleran.
Additionally, Vinson also allegedly neglected her relative's basic needs such as personal hygiene, and did not make sure his living conditions were sanitary.
After turning herself in, Vinson was served with an arrest warrant charging her with first-degree larceny, Gilleran said.
